Last night, my mother passed from one life to another. Thankfully, it was an easy transition and she was surrounded by everyone who loved and cared for her. While it might seem odd or perhaps a bit macabre to the average person, my shooting this event was as natural to me as was dying to her. I was compelled to make the shot as there was such peace in her; I had to record her final moments. 1925-2013

What a wonderful memento. It is a very Victorian practice. My sincere condolences.

It is a beautiful, touching image. Dying is as much a part of life as being born and I find it poignant that we have had occasion to witness both markers within days of each other. Sincerest condolences to you, Chris, and thank you for sharing.

Sorry to hear your news Chris, a very poignant image and there is no reason at all why we shouldn't record our loved ones like this. Our thoughts are with you and your family.

Sorry for your loss, Chris, and no, it's not macabre. A poignant image, indeed.
