Took this shot a few months ago when I last visited Aberglasney House and Gardens. This image was made up with three exposures, blended in Photoshop and then converted to monochrome.

Well, that's certainly a LOT better than I have done it. I'm a season-ticket holder there and visit on a regular basis (the salmon sandwiches and Chardonnay on the terrace are very nice . Great composition, and a very nice BW.

Cheers Rob, we visit about three times a year but the last time I was here I was informed that I could not use my tripod in the grounds, good job I managed to get this one before they told me.

I'm sure that I looked at that when browsing around the shop whilst other half was buying even more plants for our garden.

I had this odd thought that perhaps it would be fun if the sky matched out as a "portal" of sorts similar to the end of the collonade..so, of course, I played. I am not sure the lightened arch works as well with the darker sky but left everything pretty much as it came. Thoughts?

Hi Chris, funny you should do this, as I lowered the contrast on this image before uploading it as it looked too contrasty although the print is excellent. It will be interesting to see what others think.

FWIW, I prefer the first version - at least here on screen. In a print, the higher contrast and different sky may be better.

Now, when I get on my monitor at home, i have to agree with you..at school, it looked much more subtle.

This is why the monitor calibration is important (the other thread) On my monitor (calibrated) the original looks a little bit flat and could do with more contrast, and certainly a bit more brightness. The edit looks slight too bright, but not much. I'd say somewhere between the two.

Spot On - As I said this has printed out great, but I thought it looked a little too contrasty this evening on my monitor so I lower the contrast before uploading.
