My difficulty with this shot is not being able to see where the black point should lie. I love the shot right down to the shoreline but it seems to go dead flat from there to the bottom of the page.

Maybe a crop to just the underside of the broken groyne? I think it needs something at the bottom to give the sense of perspective or depth.

I think I would leave it as it was originally, and perhaps add a layer mask, gradation fill at soft light knocked down to about 40%. That should povide a strong contrast but not overpower.
