I love this sort of thing Mike. They are very similar to the defence works at Cayton ay near Scarborough. We are fortunate enough to have a few bunkers and pill boxes around from the Risley Royal Ordnance Factory. We live on land that was reclaimed from the factory site and I used to play on it when I was a kid and it was still standing. I think many forget that Britain was literally a fortress in the 40's and landscapes were significantly changed to funnel attacking forces into intensely defended zones. It is rare if you cannot find some evidence of defences along our coasts.

Looks like a great location for photos, you need a stomy sky, lots of contrast and monochrome. This shot just goes to show the power of the sea against our country.

I had taken a few friends on a pre-planned photographic trip, so you can imagine my disappointment when faced with clear blue skies. Mind you I wouldn't want to be standing in this position during a storm!!

The erosion of the coast is also a problem - another one - in Portugal. The water is very powerful and men tend to forget it. In the UK, the pillboxes were imposed by the circumstances while somewhere people build houses instead with sometimes, very nasty consequences. The image is nice but indeed a black and white would perhaps be a better choice.
