Agree with your crop, makes for a stronger image, but it does need something in that water (do you want to borrow my swan ) .

Yes, that's exactly what I had in mind. Ultimately, I think that some of the cloud reflections in the lake have the look of - well - blotcheness, and that may limit what you can do. How about souping it up a bit (or a lot) - vibrancy + saturation, but not contrast?
