Dear All Many of you asked about using a darker skin for the forum similar to that other forum or DGrin. I have been working on this as promised but certain aspects are still a little rough around the edges. However, I would like your opinions about the look and 'feel' of the forum. The scrolling header has been a pain in the butt and it is still a little shaky. It gives you an idea though. Currently the scroll header has the following features; Stops scroll on hovering your mouse over an image Clicking on an image takes you to the post in the forum where the image appears (only works on the 'green glasses' image by way of an example) I want to change the control icons to something more subdued and appropriate and have a couple of other issues to work on Please tell me what you think (honestly) and what else could be added When we are happy I will take the forum off-line for an hour whilst I implement the change f-stop2.proboards.com/index.cgi

I definitely like the new look. It looks serious and cool at the same time. With us as photographers, we surely know what a darker background would do with our images... amazing contrast! ;D Many thanks to your continuous effort to make our "home" look nicer, Steve. Cheers.

Maybe the banner images should be static?

That's what I was thinking, actually. If it scrolls, it looks like an ad to me. and it also attracts to much attention if It moves. If it is static, members and guests can see it longer to take notice of it and get curious. That is usually my reaction whenever I open DGrin and take a look at what the best shot of the members look like. I'd even suggest to add a 1 to 2-pixel white border for each thumbnail to separate it from the dark background. Let's see what others say about it.

OK the images in the header are now static and green glasses pic links to its thread.
The "star" images also now only appear on the HOME page

Definitely better in every way. I do like the idea of a rolling image scroller so you can stop the one you like. I just hope you set it so you can go back to the scroller without having to dump all the way back to "Home."

This is sexy! I quite like the original white (clean looking), but dark to me always looks more serious - do you know what I mean. The images look better on a dark backdrop (as they usually do).
I'm still finding the control buttons (share, reply etc) to be hard to read. Different font?
Can't get the lightbox on your test image. Is that because it's in test mode?
Overall, I'd say it's a good improvement, and gets my vote. Good work, Steve.

Just saw your latest edit, Steve. That is definitely way better, bruddah. ;D Maybe, we can put a forward and reverse scroll button on the side of the image gallery so viewers can scroll from left to right on both direction (although I have no idea how easy or how too hard to do just that). I also agree with Rob, the control buttons has too small of a font to easily find specially with a guy like me who has to use a bifocal glass to see it. I hope we can also sort it out. You rock, Steve. Way to go!

You rock, Steve. Way to go! I think it's the type of font, more than the size. That artsy double font is always tricky to read - and my eyesight is pretty good, but I'm having to squint at it.

I am searching for controls that will be suitable. I think the existing ones look very tacky
Rob I have not set up the lightbox. I have asked Jiro to isolate the code for me and PM me with the bit that allows the lightbox. I have learned by my mistake and each code now has a header telling you what its for.

Looks GREAT, Steve. I like the static banner, but the scrolling was nice as well. I do like how the images look on black. Thanks for all your effort... it is really appreciated.

Nice! I like it much more in dark. I will have a closer look if I have some time but I really like it so far!

Mmm. I think this will work better if we just switch and take comments and suggestions as we go. It really needs people using the forum in anger to test it out. Tweaks and changes can be made as we go along. The main thing is that our images look far better in the darker environment
If things start to look a little odd its because I am trying to update live..
