Used this image to come to terms with B&W post processing,or pp in general, with Gimp.Masked out the sky and mast to lighten up the water some as it was competing with the boat. Also dodged the mast some to try and separate it from everything else. The image is as it was out of camera with no cropping. f/11@1/160 sec,ISO 400,62mm

Hello Ron, If this where mine I'd be quite happy. Suggestions. Take a look at the waters edge - running down hill left to right ? Crop the top off so that the mast has enough room at the top - but no more that needed. Lighten up the foliage (reeds?) in the bottom right. Then sit back and admire a job well done.

Nice. I like the way the reeds balance the mast.

Thanks Nick and Mike.I was wondering if the horizon was level or not.Guess it pays to use the guides every once in a while to check your work. Will work on that and the reeds.

Here's the rework of the image per Nicks comments.Had dodged the reeds but me thinks some of them are clipped on the black side of the scale.

Isn't it okay if they're clipped? They're really just silhouettes, anyway?

@katy: I would not think that It's to much of a problem as long as you don't go overboard with it.As far as shilouettes that's the only way to go as long as your clipping just the area in question. @nick and Barry:Thanks guys.Your suggestions nick have greatly improved on the composition of the image. The original above is sooc uncropped which I think makes for an odd looking image size in portrait frame.

The more I look at this the more I like it Ron. It is simple very well composed and I love the water ripples in the foreground.

Nice image Ra, I too like the ripples in the forground. I may just be seeing things but in the top of the reedsleft of center, there is a spot in a ripple that looks a bit irregular and the reed that goes threw it seems to have a missing spot. Is this an optical illusion or a cloning not yet fully cleaned?

Thanks Steve and Paul.
@paul: I had done very little cloning in this image and had done no cloning in that area.Went to the image in Gimp and enlarged that spot and it's just where the reeds in that area are turned thin side facing the camera.does look somewhat odd though.
