This is a picture of the family business in 1965. The store is no longer there - the entire block was torn down to make room for a gas station and other businesses. I think my dad took this picture. I scanned it in, straightened it, did some cloning to add some to top left that was not there before straightening. I also adjusted levels some and sharpened. Are they painting the walk? Love the bit of old cars in the reflection. 3 yrs before I was born. Was this the family business, Marie?

Nostalgia. Memories. It's always neat to see pictures of our past. Do you sew?

Paul, it was a family business from the early 1900's until shortly after this picture was taken.
On the original, it was a very sunny day and the sidewalk was completely blown. I recovered what I could, and burned it a bit so it would not be so blinding.

Mary,
I did use to sew. I am too lazy and busy with other projects to do much more than put a button on. This is a sad commentary as to a throw-away society. I try to reconcile this with my canning that I have done. Ah, well.

Oh, Marie, how fascinating! My mom was a home economics teacher who taught sewing, so my sisters and I learned at her knees. She just gave me her old portable Singer like the one in the window. I love those old machines, and carted one around with me when I was a student in Quebec. Like you, I have let that hobby fall to the wayside, but have been feeling the urge to take it up again, lately.
I am impressed with the quality of your photo. I will have to see if I can rescue some of the old ones I have around.

Janis, I have been impressed by the quality of the scanning properties of my $100 Canon Pixma. It has made me several $K as a cartographer scanning, piecing and digitizing (sp) huge maps. I've got it set to import at 300px and the images are just lovely.

Interesting, 'Rie. I'm curious to know who your clientele for the cartographic work is. (No need to reply if you are not comfortable sharing that info.) I love maps.

Don't you dare apologize for your canning activities...most yummy jams, lucscious marinara and the salsa is killer...still have a jar of storebought dills to finish off before I get to sample those little wonders.
Maybe not anyone can sew, but few can make stuff in the kitchen like you have....can't wait until next year!

Janis, it is a private party. He is writing books about troop movements during WWI. The maps I handle and convert to digitally are over 100 years old. When I get up i will post an example.
